A freelance invoice is a bill from an independent professional after agreed work is done. It should name you, name the client, number the bill, list what you delivered, and show the amount due. This page is a worked example you can open in the InvoiceBizz generator — not a Word, Excel, or blank PDF file.
Who this freelance invoice template is for
Use it if you bill clients as a designer, developer, writer, photographer, or other independent. It fits a fixed project fee, a mix of deliverables, or a small expense line. If you only bill hours × rate, the hourly invoice template is a closer starting point.

Fields this freelance invoice needs
- Your name or studio name, email, and a way to pay you
- Client legal or trading name (the accounts team pays the name on the bill)
- A unique invoice number, invoice date, and a calendar due date
- One line per deliverable or task, not a single vague “design work”
- Quantity, rate, and the total due in the currency you actually bill
Optional fields worth adding
- Purchase order or project name if the client asked for one
- A tax label and percent only when you must charge tax — InvoiceBizz is a label plus a percent, not a GST e-invoice system
- A short note that names the proposal or the delivery date
- Logo, if you have one
How to use this template in InvoiceBizz
- Open the generator with the button above. The sample loads in your browser.
- Replace the studio and client names with yours. Change the invoice number to the next number in your sequence.
- Edit the line items so they match the work you actually finished.
- Set the due date to a real calendar day. Fourteen days is an example, not a rule.
- Preview the page, download the PDF or print it, then send the file yourself. InvoiceBizz does not email the invoice or collect payment.
Drafts stay in localStorage on this device until you clear them.
Common freelance invoicing mistakes
- Reusing the same invoice number for two jobs
- Billing “website project” with no deliverable names — finance teams bounce unclear lines
- Writing “Net 14” without a due date
- Sending the bill weeks after delivery
Payment notes
Put the method next to the total: bank details, PayPal email, or whatever you already agreed. Do not invent late-fee law on the PDF. If a contract already names terms, copy those terms. See invoice payment terms explained.
